The chainsaw bar needs to be kept oiled. There’s a special oil made just for that purpose. Don’t try to save money by using regular motor oil or something like that. Bar oil has special additives to help it stay on the bar. Motor oil will fly off the chain as you saw, leaving the chain un-lubricated and you speckled with oil drops.
